Boron and Testosterone Levels

This article is going to investigate the link between boron and testosterone.

If you have been looking for some legit ways to boost your testosterone levels in the past, then you might have come across the mineral boron.

Although it’s a rarely found mineral, one thing is for sure –  it’s one the most impressive minerals out there for naturally boosting testosterone levels.

Supplementing your diet with boron is one of the best ways to improve testosterone levels. But the question is – are there any studies to prove it and what is the best amount to consume?

This article will answer all of these questions and take a look at some of the research on boron.

Does Boron Increase Testosterone?

First of all, you should know that boron is a trace mineral which affects many parts of the body, just like magnesium.

There isn’t any recommended daily intake of boron but most of the population have an intake of boron that is well below 3 mg/day. The average daily intake is about 1.5 mg/day.

Boron may seem unnecessary for some people, but this article will show you why it’s a very powerful mineral for boosting testosterone levels in the body.

This cheap and unpopular mineral is actually more effective at boosting testosterone than the vast majority of over-hyped products on the market.

Studies on Boron and Testosterone

Here are some studies which show how boron supplementation can be very beneficial for boosting testosterone levels:

1. This study that was done in 2011 tried to find out the effects of a weekly intake of boron supplementation on steroid hormones.

Eight healthy individuals were selected for this study who visited the laboratory on three different occasions, days 0, 1 and 7. On the first day, a blood sample was collected which was followed by an intake of a placebo with breakfast.

On the second day, the same procedure was repeated but this time with an intake of 10 mg of boron with breakfast. On both occasions, blood samples were collected every 2 hours for the next 6 hours.

After the second day, the subjects were requested to consume 10 mg of boron every day and on the 7th day, the blood collection was again done at 8 am.

The results showed that the 6-hour supplementation led to an increase in mean plasma testosterone levels. The Vitamin D levels also improved in the study and as you might already know, vitamin D is a proven testosterone booster.

The researchers stated that this was the first genuine study which showed that testosterone levels do increase after the consumption of boron.

2. Another study was done that looked at the effects of boron supplementation on cardiovascular risk and steroid hormones.

The results showed that supplementing daily with 10 mg’s of boron for 4 weeks resulted in a 15% increase in total testosterone levels.

3. Lastly, there was some research done by I.P. Lee and his colleagues where the main focus was to find out the effects of boron exposure on rats testosterone levels.

The animals in the study were fed with 500, 1000 and 2000 ppm boron for about 30 to 60 days. The fertility, testicular and plasma concentrations of the testosterone were evaluated.

The rats treated with the highest dose were exposed to boron for a period of one year. There were no adverse side effects found in the rats given 500 ppm of boron.

However, the rats that were given 1000 and 2000 ppm suffered from side effects like the accumulation of boron and the loss of germinal element.

The testicular function was the highest with the largest dose of boron.

Boron also lowers SHBG which results in more free testosterone flowing through the body.

Other Health Benefits of Boron

There are many other health benefits of boron, other than increasing testosterone levels. These health benefits have been mentioned below:

An Increase in Concentration

Research has shown that a lack of boron in the body leads to a sluggish brain and poor cognitive development. Boron is often known as the “brain nutrient” because it helps with long-term memory and treats short-term memory problems.

Improving Bone Health

The bone-building capacity of boron is often forgotten because of calcium. But the truth is that Boron helps and improves the metabolism of calcium, magnesium, and vitamin D.

Boron also reduces the risk of arthritis and osteoporosis and metabolizes many of the minerals involved in bone metabolism.

Healthy Muscle Mass

There are certain minerals and vitamins which are better absorbed when they are supplemented with boron.

Boron, as shown above, helps to boost testosterone levels, so it ensures healthy muscle growth.

Treats Yeast Infection

Boron is an ingredient in tablets used to treat yeast infection in women. Boron tablets are a good alternative for messy, over-the-counter yeast infection medicines.

Boric acid is usually considered safe to be inserted into the vagina to speed up the healing process.

Cancer Therapy

Boron is used for cancer therapy and the treatment of strong enzyme inhibitors. Boron compounds are also used as antibody mimics.

Boron Supplementation For Testosterone

The best dosage of boron to improve testosterone that has been shown to be safe is in the range of 3-25 mg each day.

The men in the studies mentioned above consumed 10mg of boron daily to elicit a testosterone response.

A good boron supplement that the body recognizes and can absorb fast is this Liquid Ionic Boron.

Alternatively, there are some foods that contain boron such as; lentils, nuts, legumes, avocados, raisins, prunes, dates, grapes and honey.

Boron The Solution to Your Problems?

What we can conclude from all the latest research, is that there seems to be a big link between boron and testosterone levels.

And considering that a lot of people are deficient in boron it does make a lot of sense to supplement with this cheap and powerful mineral.
